This article talks about how “seemingly irrelevant ideas” or “peripheral knowledge” can lead to innovation. This research focuses on finding out how to systematically discover “peripheral knowledge” in workgroups. As Adidas need to make innovation more of a routine in order to help differentiate its products from the competitive environment, the organization of the working group that can create innovation is important. In order to get peripheral knowledge, there needs to be the “right” environment in order to stimulate people to have peripheral knowledge and to relate this information to the core task of innovation. As adidas states in their strategy “Route 2015” the company continuously strives to create a culture of innovation, expanding ideas for products and services, in order to flourish in the competitive environment and maximize financial performance. Part of their 2015 strategic business plan is to commit to innovation and this article is an opportunity for the company to explore. In addition to this, Adidas has recently release a “revolutionary cushioning” technology in its new running shoe “Energy Boost” which shows that Adidas is on top of its innovation process.
